You can choose when your Story is marked as complete: when the learner reaches the last node, or when they press Continue on it. This helps make sure completion is tracked correctly, even if learners leave your Story without pressing Continue.
Let me show you how to set this up.
Changing when your Story is marked as complete
Open your Story and go to Story Settings.
Find the Other section and locate Complete story when the learner reaches the last node.
Turn the setting on to automatically complete your Story when the learner reaches the last node.
That's it! Your Story will now be marked as complete when the learner reaches the last node, without needing to press Continue.
The setting is off by default, so your Story will normally be marked as complete when the learner presses Continue on the last node.
How does the setting work?
There are two ways your Story can be marked as complete:
Setting off (default): The learner needs to press Continue on the last node to complete the Story.
Setting on: The Story is automatically marked as complete when the learner reaches the last node, without needing to press Continue.
The setting applies to your entire Story, rather than individual nodes.
What if my Story has multiple endings?
If your Story has branching paths with different endings, don't worry!
The setting works for every last node in your Story. A last node is any node without an outgoing connection to another node.
This means learners can complete your Story through any of its ending paths, and their completion will still be tracked.
What if the last node is a quiz?
Quiz nodes work a little differently.
If the last node is a quiz and you've enabled automatic completion, your Story will be marked as complete when the learner leaves the quiz, rather than when they first reach it.
This ensures that the learner's quiz score is reported before the Story is marked as complete.
How does this affect LMS tracking?
If you're sharing your Story through an LMS using SCORM, xAPI, or cmi5, this setting controls when completion is reported.
With automatic completion enabled, learners don't need to press Continue on the last node for their completion to be recorded.
Completion is only recorded once per playthrough, even if the learner presses Continue after reaching the last node.
This also applies to completion tracking in We Are.
🦸🏽♀️ Pro tip: If learners are reaching the end of your Story but their LMS isn't registering completion, try enabling this setting. It's especially useful for Stories that end with a Poster node, where learners might read the final content and leave without pressing Continue.
