What is a quiz node

Updated over 3 weeks ago

Want to make sure your learners truly understand the content before moving on?
Then the Quiz node is your go-to node.

The Quiz node lets you test knowledge, reinforce learning, and add light gamification to your Stories. Use quizzes to check understanding, guide learners down different paths, or simply make learning more interactive.

Quizzes work seamlessly inside your Story and can branch learners forward based on their results.

What is a Quiz node?

A Quiz node is a Node that presents learners with one or more questions and then shows them a result based on how they answered. You can use quizzes to:

  • Check understanding after a lesson

  • Reinforce key concepts

  • Create pass/fail moments

  • Branch learners to different outcomes based on their score

Quiz node supports two question types:

  1. Multiple choice: Learners select one or more correct answers from a list.

  2. Sorting: Learners arrange options in the correct order.

You can combine multiple question types inside a single Quiz node.

How to add a Quiz node

  1. Open your Story

  2. Go to the Node Map

  3. Open the Node menu

  4. Select Quiz node

The Quiz node will now appear in your Story and is ready to be edited.

Editing a Quiz node

  1. Select the Quiz node in your Story

  2. Click Edit to enter edit mode

1. Setup

The first tab you see is Setup.

Here you define the overall look and behavior of your quiz.:

  • Preview how the quiz will look for learners (1)

  • Choose whether questions should be shuffled (2)

  • Decide if learners should see correct or incorrect feedback (3)

  • Customize the appearance (4):

    • Background color

    • Text color

    • Toggle Dark mode

2. Questions

Open Questions in the top bar to start adding questions and answers to your quiz.

Multiple choice questions

  1. Type and edit your question (1)

  2. Add answer options (2) and mark each one as correct or incorrect (3)

  3. Upload an image for the question if you want to.

From the menu on the left, you can:

  • Enable images for answer options (4)

  • Shuffle answers or keep them in a fixed order (5)

  • Turn on AI-generated feedback (6)

AI-generated feedback

AI-generated feedback gives learners personalized feedback based on the answer they choose.

You can also add a feedback note to guide the AI with extra context. This is especially useful for internal knowledge, terminology, or company-specific information.

To add another question, click the plus (+) button and choose between Multiple choice or Sorting.

Sorting questions

For sorting questions, you can:

  1. Type your questions (1)

  2. Add answer options in the correct order (2). The first option in the list represents the correct first step or item.

  3. Drag and drop options to change the order (3)

  4. Upload an image for the question if you want to (4)

On the right side, you can:

  • Enable images for answers (5)

  • Turn on AI-generated feedback (6)

  • Choose how the sorting order is displayed (7):

    • No labels

    • Numbers

    • Letters

3. Results

Open Results in the top bar to control what happens after the quiz.

Here you can:

  • Set a passing score (percentage) (1)

  • Decide whether learners should see a result summary (2)

Branching based on score

At the end of the quiz, you can choose to branch learners based on their score.

This option is available only when Passing score is enabled in the Quiz editor (under Results, see above). Learners are sent to either the Pass or Fail path based on their score percentage.

This makes it easy to guide learners to different branches depending on how they perform in the quiz.

Tracking quiz results

Quiz results and scores can be tracked when your Story is exported as a SCORM file.

When using SCORM:

  • Learner responses are tracked as quiz responses

  • Quiz scores are tracked and reported through your LMS

This allows you to follow learner performance, completion, and results outside of We Are.
