AI Studio lets you generate AI content right inside We Are. Every AI generation is paid for with AI Studio credits. This article explains the different types of credits, the order they're spent in and when they expire.
What are AI Studio credits?
AI Studio credits are a single, shared currency for everything you create with AI in We Are. Instead of paying separately for each type of output, you spend credits from one pool.
Different outputs use credits at different rates (for example, higher-resolution or longer video uses more credits). The credit cost is shown before you generate, so you can always see what something will cost before you commit to it.
💡 Think of credits like electricity, not appliances. One pool powers every AI feature, so you don't have to track separate balances for video, images, and voice.
The three types of credits
Your AI Studio balance can be made up of three kinds of credits. They all spend the same way, but they're topped up — and expire — differently.
Type | Where it comes from | Expiry |
Promotional credits | Granted by We Are — for example, during a trial, a campaign, or as a goodwill gesture. | 30 days from when they're added |
Subscription credits | Included with your plan and refreshed at the start of each billing cycle. | Reset at the end of each billing cycle (don't roll over) |
Top-up credits | Bought by you when you need more, in addition to your plan. | 30 days from purchase |
How credits are spent
When you generate something in AI Studio, credits are always drawn down in the same order:
Promotional credits first
Subscription credits next
Top-up credits last
This order is designed to protect your balance. Credits with the shortest shelf life and the ones you didn't pay for are used first, so the credits you bought are the last to be spent.
Example
Say you have the following balance and you run a generation that costs 700 credits:
50 promotional credits
600 subscription credits
200 top-up credits
The 700 credits are taken in order:
50 from promotional (now 0)
600 from subscription (now 0)
50 from top-ups (200 → 150 remaining)
You're left with 150 top-up credits, which stay available until they reach their 30-day expiry.
When credits expire
Each type of credit has its own expiry, so it's worth knowing what you have and when it runs out:
Promotional credits expire 30 days after they're added to your account.
Top-up credits expire 30 days after purchase.
Subscription credits refresh with each billing cycle and don't carry over — any unused subscription credits are reset when your new cycle begins.
How to buy top-up credits
If you need more credits than your plan includes, you can buy top-ups at any time:
Log in to your account
Go to Settings
Open AI Studio and choose Buy credits
Pick the top-up pack that fits your needs and complete checkout. The credits are added to your account right away and are ready to use.
🔔 Note: Buying top-ups is available to Administrators by default. Your workspace can be set up to let Creators buy top-ups too, otherwise a Creator can request more credits and an Administrator approves the purchase.
FAQ
Do my credits roll over to the next month?
Subscription credits don't roll over - they reset at the start of each billing cycle. Top-up and promotional credits stay available until their 30-day expiry, regardless of your billing cycle.
In what order are my credits used?
Always promotional first, then subscription, then top-ups. This means the credits you paid for are the last to be spent.
What happens when I run out of credits?
You won't be able to start a new AI generation until you have enough credits. You can buy a top-up at any time, or wait for your subscription credits to refresh at the start of your next billing cycle.
Can I see how many credits something will cost before I generate it?
Yes. The credit cost is shown at the point of generation, and it updates as you change settings like length or resolution.
How do I know how many credits I have left?
Your current balance is shown in AI Studio. If you'd like help understanding your usage, just contact us.
