Managing in-Story navigation

Player Navigation lets learners move back and forward through a Story. They can jump back to nodes they’ve already visited to replay dialogue, re-take quizzes, or try a different response — and they can also jump forward again to continue the Story, without needing to restart from the beginning.

What learners can do

With navigation on, learners can:

  • jump back to nodes they’ve already visited

  • move forward in the Story to keep going (including into nodes they haven’t visited yet)

Learners can’t skip into nodes they haven’t completed yet.

Turning navigation on in a Story

  1. Open your Story, then click Settings.

  2. Scroll to Navigation, then toggle Allow learners to revisit completed nodes on or off.

    • When this is on, Learners can move back and forward through nodes they’ve already completed.

    • When this is off, in-story navigation is disabled for the Story.

  3. If you turn it on, you’ll see an extra option appear: Allow learners to freely skip ahead.
Toggle this on if you want Learners to skip forward more freely through nodes:

    • On linear paths, they can skip forward without replaying every node.

    • On branches, they can only skip ahead within paths they’ve selected before.

When should I disable navigation?

You might want to turn navigation off if:

  • you’re using the Story as a formal assessment

  • you don’t want Learners to revisit earlier choices

  • you need a strict, one-pass experience
