Extras: How billing works

Updated this week

When you add an extra to your plan, it’s important to understand how billing works. This article explains prorated charges, when they apply, and what happens in your next billing cycle.

Adding an extra in We Are

Every We Are plan includes a standard number of creators, languages, Characters, and published Stories. Check the specific limits for your plan on our pricing page.

When you add an extra, the cost is prorated based on the remaining days in your current billing cycle and charged immediately. Starting with your next cycle, you’ll be billed the full amount for your plan plus any extras.

Monthly extras

If you’re on a monthly subscription, the extra is prorated for the remaining days of the current month and billed right away.

Yearly extras

If you’re on an annual subscription, the extra is prorated for the remaining months of your current billing year and billed immediately.

Example

If you add the language extra at $50/month on the 15th, your charge for the remaining 16 days will be prorated:

  • Daily cost: $50 ÷ 30 = $1.67/day

  • Prorated charge: 16 days × $1.67 = $26.67

You’ll be charged $26.67 immediately, and from the next billing cycle, you’ll pay the full $50.

Billing cycle and currency

Upgrades are applied to your current billing cycle and in your current currency. If you'd like to make changes, please contact us.

Removing an extra

If you remove an extra, changes will apply at the end of your current billing cycle. You won't be refunded for prorated charges, but you can still use the extra until the cycle ends.

FAQ

What happens if I continue using the extra after I removed it?

When you remove an extra, it stays active until the end of your extra’s current billing cycle, and you can keep using it until then.

However, if the extra is still in use (for example, it’s used in a published Story) when your next billing date arrives, we won’t automatically remove it. This is to avoid disrupting your active content. Instead, the extra will renew and be billed separately from your main subscription.

✅ To avoid being charged again, make sure to remove the extra from any Stories and in your settings before your billing date.

How can I see if I've downgraded an extra?

  1. Log in to your account

  2. Go to Settings

  3. Click Manage Extras

Here you’ll see a disclaimer about extras that will be removed in the next billing cycle.

Is there a limit to adding extras?

There’s no limit to the number of extras you can add to your plan. Note: Additional creators are not available on the Single Creator plan.

What happens to my extras if I upgrade to a higher-tier plan?

Your extras stay active when you upgrade. The upgrade won’t change the cost or prorated value of your extras — they’ll simply carry over to your new plan. You’ll see them included in your next billing cycle alongside the new plan charges.

Example:

  • On the Single Creator plan, you have 5 Characters by default and 1 extra, totaling 6 Characters.

  • Upgrading to the Small Business plan (which includes 15 Characters by default) will give you 16 Characters (15 + 1 extra).

  • You can downgrade your extra after the upgrade if you no longer need it.
