What is a Story? (Linear vs. Interactive)
What is a Story? (Linear vs. Interactive)
Updated over 3 months ago

At We Are, everything begins with a Story. What do we mean by that? We refer to ‘We Are Story’, or simply, a ‘Story’ to an immersive, 3D animated content piece that can either be linear or interactive, depending on your goals and how you want to engage your audience.

Let us explain.

Linear Stories

A linear Story is straightforward, like a traditional explainer video. It’s a continuous, single-path experience where the 3D animated content plays from start to finish without any input from the viewer.

The final output is typically a video file (such as an MP4) that learners watch passively while the Characters guide them through the content. Linear Stories are perfect for delivering clear, concise information that’s easy to create and update. Learn more about creating linear Stories here.

Interactive Stories

An interactive Story puts the learner in the driver's seat. It requires active participation, allowing the learner to make decisions that influence the direction and outcome of their learning experience. Learners can navigate through branched scenarios, choosing what Characters should say next, and practicing responses to different situations. The possibilities are endless!

Interactive Stories engage learners by making them a part of the experience rather than just passive observers. These Stories are typically shared via a URL or through your Learning Management System (LMS). Learn more about distributing interactive Stories here.

With We Are, you can create either type of Story with ease, turning your ideas into immersive experiences that captivate and educate. No expertise needed. No matter which format you choose, you’re on your way to becoming a content creation hero!
